Career path
Goode began his security career in government service, holding a role in the Senior Executive Service at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he worked to improve cyber detection and response capabilities for Federal Civilian Agencies and the private sector.
He later held security leadership roles in Europe, serving as Chief Information Security Officer for UK & Ireland at Deutsche Bank and as the bank's global head of Information Security Operations.
Goode subsequently became a Managing Director at Citigroup in New York City, where he oversaw information security, business continuity, operational resilience, and emerging operational risks.
While at Citigroup, Goode was listed among the contributing authors of the firm's Managing Cyber Risk with Human Intelligence, published in May 2019.
Goode joined Commonwealth Bank of Australia in February 2021 as Chief Security Officer, moving from Citi.
At CBA he led the bank's Group Security division, a unit established in July 2021 to bring together the cyber, fraud, financial crime and physical security domains.
His remit there included overseeing the design, creation and communication of the bank's security strategies and roadmaps, intended to strengthen its end-to-end security posture and its ability to withstand and recover from disruption events.
Goode's responsibilities at CBA covered cybersecurity, fraud, physical security and business resilience, work aimed at countering cyber and financial threats to the bank and the broader market while improving the customer experience.
Remit at Citizens Financial Group
Citizens Financial Group announced Goode's appointment as Chief Security Officer in February 2024, with the move effective April 29, 2024.
In the role, Goode reports to Michael Ruttledge, Citizens' Chief Information Officer and Head of Enterprise Technology & Security.
Announcing the appointment, Ruttledge said: "Brendan is a highly skilled security executive whose extensive experience and innovative insights in security, operational resilience, and fraud will enable him to provide strong and effective leadership to protect the bank and improve service for our customers."

Goode holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.
