Chaim Mazal is chief information security officer of GitLab, a role the company announced from San Francisco on June 9, 2026. GitLab's release says he leads the company's global security organization, overseeing the security of GitLab both as a company and as a platform.

Career path

Before GitLab, Mazal was chief AI and security officer at Gigamon, where GitLab's release says he led security and the company's AI program, including governance and responsible adoption across the organization. CSO Online's roundup of 2026 CISO appointments places that same move in its June 2026 section and adds that he had served on GitLab's advisory board before taking the CISO job, following more than eight years as a customer of the company. GitLab's own release gives the same detail, and adds that he previously held senior security leadership roles at Kandji and ActiveCampaign.

GitLab describes his overall security leadership experience as spanning 15 years, built on what it calls a practitioner's background across adversarial security and enterprise security program design.

Community and industry role

GitLab's release also says Mazal serves on the advisory boards of Cloudflare, Rapid7, Axonius and Bugcrowd, describing him as an established voice in the security community. On joining, Mazal said: "We have a real opportunity to define what a world-class AI security program looks like for us and our customers."

The two sources reviewed do not date the start of his time at Gigamon, Kandji or ActiveCampaign, so this profile does not attempt to order those roles by year, and neither source lists a title for him at ActiveCampaign or Kandji beyond calling them senior security leadership roles.
