Chris Kennedy is the Chief Information Security Officer of Group 1001, appointed in October 2023.
Career path
Kennedy is a former Marine Corps officer and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran.
He held foundational leadership roles in the development of the U.S. Department of Treasury's cyber operations program as a defense and federal contractor for Northrop Grumman, and he led the initial development of the U.S. Marine Corps' global incident response organization.
He later served as a senior security technology leader at Bridgewater Associates, where he was head of security for infrastructure technology and controls engineering.
From Bridgewater he joined AttackIQ, an automated cybersecurity testing platform, as chief information security officer and vice president of customer success, a role in which he managed customer relations and success alongside the company's internal security strategy.
Kennedy then became Global Chief Information Security Officer at Citadel, a multinational hedge fund, before joining Group 1001 as Chief Information Security Officer in October 2023.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Science in Computer and Information Systems from Boston University.
Remit and recognition
At Group 1001, Kennedy has written that "cybersecurity isn't just a requirement; it's a strategic competency that enables our mission as a next-generation financial services company." In 2026 he was named a winner of the BostonCISO ORBIE Awards in the Large Enterprise category, with the recognition tied to his work transforming the Group 1001 cybersecurity program over a 27-year career that began in the Marine Corps.

While at AttackIQ, Kennedy wrote The Cold Truth about Cyber Insurance for Dark Reading. He also wrote opinion pieces for Infosecurity Magazine, including Defending Against State-Sponsored Hackers and What Does the Hack Back Bill Mean to Your Business?, as well as a magazine feature titled Compliance Competency: Improving Security Strategies vs Far From a Security Guarantee. Security Magazine profiled Kennedy as CISO at AttackIQ, noting that he had previously led the initial development of the U.S. Marine Corps' global incident response organization and had held roles in defense contracting spanning cybersecurity research and development, products and services, and mergers and acquisitions.
