Heather Gantt-Evans is the Chief Information Security Officer of Marqeta, appointed in August 2023.
Career path
Gantt-Evans served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years as an all-source threat intelligence analyst, supporting Air Force Cyber Command on cyber threat intelligence and cyber fusion operations.
She spent five years as a security consultant with Ernst & Young, advising Fortune 100 companies on cybersecurity programs, and also held strategic security roles at Booz Allen Hamilton supporting Air Force Cyber Command.
She then became Senior Director of Security Operations and Resilience at The Home Depot, leading the company's security operations centers, network security operations, security engineering, application security and vulnerability management.
In March 2021, SailPoint named Gantt-Evans Chief Information Security Officer, a role in which she designed the identity security company's cybersecurity strategy and worked to reduce business and product risk.
Marqeta appointed her Chief Information Security Officer in August 2023, with responsibility for the company's global corporate and product security strategies as the platform operated in more than 40 countries.
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to join Marqeta and lead transformative security programs that effectively reduce and manage risk," Gantt-Evans said.
Approach, recognition and outside roles
In describing her approach to security operations, Gantt-Evans has said that bringing disciplines together in a fusion center or DevSecOps model builds empathy across teams, which strengthens collaboration and efficiency.
At The Home Depot, she organized a cybersecurity-team book club built around How to Be an Antiracist, inviting the organization to discuss a chapter each week with a volunteer facilitator.
She has said the initiative helped a diverse group of colleagues become more comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work and sharing their perspectives.
Security Magazine named Gantt-Evans a Top Cybersecurity Leader in 2021.
She serves on multiple advisory boards and chairs the cybersecurity committee at Envision Radiology.
Gantt-Evans has spoken at events including the Grace Hopper Celebration and local WiCyS hackathons to encourage women in the tech industry.
Education
Gantt-Evans holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology and a master's degree in Technology Management from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
