Rathod spent 16 years at the FBI, where she served in the senior executive service governing the intelligence program for 56 field offices and four operational divisions.
She later served as senior director of Cyber Operations and Intelligence at Capital One Financial Corp., where she created and led cybersecurity functions with firmwide scope and impact.
Before joining Johns Hopkins, Rathod led cyberintelligence across multiple global teams at Citigroup, performing cyber technical and strategic analysis to drive defensive controls and diminish emerging threats, and identifying and mitigating risk within the emerging technology space.
She joined Johns Hopkins as vice president and chief information security officer, a hire described as bringing experience suited to the cybersecurity threats facing higher education and health care.
Remit and public statement
Rathod's security career spans more than two decades of heading enterprisewide security teams across public and private sector organizations.
On taking up the Johns Hopkins position, she said, "Joining the Johns Hopkins community as the CISO is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,"
Her mandate at Johns Hopkins extends across the university's education, health care, and research operations, building on the enterprisewide security leadership she exercised at Capital One and Citigroup.
Johns Hopkins's health care operations include The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation, a distinct corporate leadership body within Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Rathod succeeded Darren Lacey, who moved to the role of chief engineer for cybersecurity in the Information Technology Services Department at the Applied Physics Laboratory.
