Joan Pepin is the Chief Information Security Officer of Edge Delta, appointed in May 2025.

Career path

Before joining Edge Delta, Pepin spent three decades building and scaling security programs at companies including Auth0, Sumo Logic, and Nike.

She also previously held leadership roles at Verisign and ZeroWall.

At Sumo Logic, she served as Vice President of Security and CISO, bringing more than 17 years of information security experience spanning healthcare, manufacturing, defense, ISPs, and MSSPs.

While in that role, she was the inventor of SecureWorks' Anomaly Detection Engine and Event Linking technologies.

She was a keynote speaker at the 2008 Forrester Security Summit and a presenter at the 2008 Gartner Security Summit CSO Series.

By 2019, Pepin was CISO and vice president of operations at Auth0, with 22 years of experience in the cybersecurity industry at that point.

Role at Edge Delta

As CISO, Pepin leads Edge Delta's security strategy and oversees the company's global security and compliance initiatives, with a focus on secure data processing, platform resilience, and enabling customer success through security practices.

Edge Delta provides telemetry pipelines for security and observability data, and its customers span finance, transportation, e-commerce and government.

"I'm excited to join this mission and help customers confidently adopt Edge Delta at enterprise scale," Pepin said upon joining the company.

Public commentary

In a September 2025 webinar, Pepin discussed how artificial intelligence is changing both attacker tactics and defender response, covering AI-generated phishing, polymorphic malware, and the role of clean telemetry pipelines in trustworthy AI-powered defense.

In earlier remarks on the cybersecurity skills gap, Pepin argued that the more pressing shortage was in security leadership rather than engineering, and that sophisticated automated tools still require experienced staff to interpret their output and take action.

She also spoke about gender disparity in the industry, saying the field needed to become more welcoming in order to bring in more women and underrepresented groups.
