As of August 26, 2026, Sandro Bucchianeri had been appointed chief information security officer of ANZ, reporting to ANZ group chief information officer Donald Patra, with the appointment set to commence November 11, 2026. At the time of the announcement he remained Group Chief Security Officer of National Australia Bank, a post FinTech Futures reports he has held since 2021.

Career path

ANZ's announcement credits Bucchianeri with more than 30 years of experience as a global security executive, including 15 years as CISO and Chief Security Officer for multinational organisations. Before National Australia Bank, ANZ's release says he held senior security leadership roles at Absa Group, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Investec and AT&T, working across South Africa, the Middle East, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. FinTech Futures fills in the sequence further, reporting that his NAB appointment was his first role in Australia after relocating from South Africa, where he spent four years at Absa Group leading technology security, and that he separately brings experience as group CSO at National Bank of Abu Dhabi, CSO and global head of consulting at Sysnet Global Solutions, and nearly two years as CISO at Investec.

Scope of the incoming role

ANZ says that as CISO he will be responsible for leading the bank's information and cyber security strategy and driving a threat-led, risk-informed approach across the enterprise, working closely with teams across the bank to manage risk and uplift cyber maturity and capability. Patra described him in the release as "an outstanding and globally respected security leader, with a proven track record of uplifting cyber maturity across large, complex organisations." Until Bucchianeri joins, ANZ's Shane Ripley continues as acting chief information security officer.

Because his ANZ tenure had not yet begun as of the sources reviewed, this profile treats the National Australia Bank post as his most recent completed role rather than a prior one.
