Sebastian Goodwin is the chief trust officer of Autodesk, appointed starting March 27, 2023.

Career path

Early in his career, Goodwin spent ten years in consulting roles with IBM Business Consulting Services and several boutique firms. He then served as chief information security officer for a large multinational company, responsible for global information security and IT risk management programs covering 12,000 end-users across 400 branch offices. Sources describe that CISO role as his position at Robert Half, held before he moved into the security vendor world.
Goodwin joined Palo Alto Networks as director of endpoint security, a role focused on driving awareness and adoption of the company's next-generation security platform. He later became head of product marketing for endpoint security at Palo Alto Networks, leading the company's product launch into the endpoint security market.
Goodwin then served as chief information security officer at Nutanix, where he built the company's foundation of global cybersecurity, compliance and risk management.
Autodesk named him chief trust officer starting March 27, 2023, after his CISO tenure at Nutanix.

As chief trust officer, Goodwin oversees the fulfillment of Autodesk's commitments to customers and stakeholders on security, privacy and data ethics. He leads the company's global strategy on security, privacy, trusted AI and resilience.
His work supports the development of resilient systems across Autodesk's products and industry clouds.

Teaching and published work

Goodwin is the author of two books on Windows Server security and co-author of the Security+ certification exam. He has taught numerous courses on security and technology. He lectures on managing cyber risk at UC Berkeley, and while at Nutanix he was an adjunct professor at the university's School of Information, teaching in its Masters in Cybersecurity degree program.
Discussing authentication as Nutanix's chief information security officer, he said, "Passwords are obsolete at this point," arguing that any resource reachable with only a user ID and password should be treated as unprotected.

Education

Goodwin holds a bachelor's degree in applied economics from the University of San Francisco and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
