- Current role, per sources checked 11 May 2026
- Not stated in the sources
Tim Byrd is chief information security officer of First Citizens Bank, appointed to the post according to SecurityWeek's industry-moves roundup for the week of May 11, 2026. The same roundup notes he is a board member of the National Technology Security Coalition.
Career path
Before First Citizens, SecurityWeek reports that Byrd previously served as CISO at M&T Bank, PROG Holdings, and TIAA, and held leadership security roles at Financial Services Roundtable, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America.
A Wells Fargo newsroom release from February 2018 fills in one of those stops: Byrd was then the bank's head of Enterprise Information Security Risk Leadership and Management, and he had just been elected by his peers to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), beginning in January 2018.
In that role, the release said, Byrd would help drive the strategic direction of FS-ISAC as a resource in cyber and physical threat intelligence analysis for the financial sector, and it quoted him saying, "The opportunity to provide leadership and facilitate collaboration across the sector through the FS-ISAC organization is critical to protecting both our industry and Wells Fargo customers."
What the record spans
Taken together, the two sources place Byrd's documented career across six financial institutions and two industry bodies over at least eight years, all in bank-sector security and risk leadership, before his appointment at First Citizens Bank. Neither source fetched for this profile gives the dates of his M&T Bank, PROG Holdings, TIAA or Bank of America postings, so this profile does not attempt to sequence them precisely.
