As of March 2025, Vari Bindra is the Chief Information Security Officer of Life360, a newly created role at the connection and safety company.

Career path

Before joining Life360, Bindra spent more than two decades in information and cybersecurity roles at global companies including Amazon, Blackhawk Network, Fisher Investments, and Intuit.

At Amazon, he led all aspects of security, risk, and privacy for Amazon Retail Stores, covering Whole Foods Market, Amazon Go, and the AWS Just Walk Out businesses.

Earlier in his career, Bindra was hired in December 2015 as head of cyber defense at Blackhawk Network, a multinational prepaid-card company, where he worked to build a central security operations center and consolidate the company's data centers.

At Blackhawk, he set out to replace a sprawling set of roughly 28 separate defensive tools with a more consolidated architecture, adopting a machine-learning threat-detection platform that he says reduced the mean time to detect intrusions by 40 percent.

Remit at Life360

As CISO, Bindra is responsible for security across Life360's product and enterprise systems, and works with the senior leadership team to develop proactive security initiatives, policies, and protocols.

Life360 has said his role is intended to lead the strategy and implementation of security solutions in support of the company's goal of becoming the most trusted brand for safety and connection.

Approach to new technology

Describing how he evaluated machine-learning-based threat detection while at Blackhawk Network, Bindra said, "I had a fairly decent idea of what I wanted this technology to do, which was learn and tell me the anomalies that are happening and present it to me in an easy to digest format."

He has also said he was drawn to unsupervised machine learning because it arrived without predefined assumptions about what counted as normal or anomalous behavior on a network.
