Eric Freeman is the Chief Information Security Officer of WRITER, appointed in August 2025 as the agentic AI platform's first CISO. WRITER describes itself as the AI platform built for the world's leading marketing and revenue teams.

Career path

Freeman previously served as Head of Security at Patreon, where he led secure-by-default engineering, regulatory compliance, incident response, and enterprise security initiatives. Before Patreon, he was VP of Security and Reliability at Blockdaemon and Director of Security at BlockFi, building security organizations from the ground up, consolidating tooling across multi-cloud environments, and reducing bugs, breach likelihood, and supply chain risk. His background spans more than a decade of building and scaling security programs across fintech, SaaS, blockchain, and infrastructure companies. At WRITER, he is tasked with expanding the company's end-to-end security strategy so that Global 2000 customers can build, deploy, and supervise AI agents at scale. His mandate includes strengthening agent oversight and authentication, architecting zero-trust and least-privilege frameworks for AI agents, and expanding platform features that use AI for triage, continuous testing, and automated analysis.

Public remarks on AI security

Freeman has described security in the agentic era as a productivity driver rather than a cost center, arguing that properly secured AI agents can operate at full speed and act as a direct contributor to business growth. He has said least-privilege access principles must extend to AI agents as new members of the workforce, and has argued that failing to treat digital agents as real employees is a security risk born of a failure of imagination. At WRITER, his team builds autonomous agents that continuously test the company's own systems for weaknesses, an approach he calls purple teaming at machine scale, probing for reachable vulnerabilities from both defensive and offensive angles. He has also described a vision for a cellular AI architecture made up of many specialized agents, which he contrasts with a single monolithic system as a more resilient model for enterprise security. On the industry's traditional reliance on risk messaging, Freeman said, "The entire security industry is based on fear tactics because it’s what has been sold." These perspectives were discussed in an episode of WRITER's Humans of AI series published in October 2025.
