Gordon Groschl is the Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer of City of Hope, appointed in January 2026.

Career path

Groschl spent nearly two decades at a Houston-based pediatric hospital system, serving as chief information security officer and director of healthcare technology management there.
In that post he directed a $65 million enterprisewide cybersecurity and infrastructure transformation.
The initiative reduced ransomware risk by 80%, cut zero-day remediation time from 60 days to 24 hours, and remediated more than 900 control deficiencies, while cutting disaster recovery times by 75% and identity and access management provisioning times by 80%. He moved to City of Hope in Duarte, California, joining the organization in January 2026 and being named vice president and chief information security officer there.

Current remit

At City of Hope, Groschl leads the organization's enterprise cybersecurity strategy across clinical care, research and corporate operations. He oversees corporate security, IT compliance and data privacy, according to a LinkedIn post from City of Hope. His portfolio also covers risk management, security operations, threat and vulnerability management, identity and access governance, data protection and incident response, and he has advanced the organization's adoption of zero trust security principles. He is described as responsible for safeguarding City of Hope's proprietary and operational interests through internal and external controls while setting the security culture tied to the organization's growth and mission.

Recognition and industry involvement

Groschl has more than two decades of cybersecurity experience spanning infrastructure, system architecture and healthcare technology.
He has been named a Top Global CISO for 2025 and received CISOConnect A100 honors in both 2025 and 2026, along with recognition from Becker's Hospital Review as a hospital and health system CISO to know.
He serves as a board member for Gartner C-Level Communities' Houston CISO group and for SecureWorld Houston, and is listed among SecureWorld's conference speakers.
He holds a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity and has completed advanced executive leadership and healthcare IT programs.
