Sean Malone is the Chief Information Security Officer of BeyondTrust, appointed on April 28, 2025. In the role, he oversees the company's global security strategy, including product and services security, threat management, cyber risk and compliance, and security operations.
Career path
Malone spent the first decade of his career on the offensive side of cybersecurity, working as a simulated adversary in red team engagements against large companies. He went on to lead cyber defense efforts at Accenture Security and at Amazon Prime Video, strengthening enterprise cyber defense at scale. He also held leadership roles at FusionX, Sanford Health, CallHealth, and Polycom.
He later served as Chief Information Security Officer for VisibleRisk, leading information security, delivery, product, and research and development, and became VP of risk products when BitSight Technologies acquired VisibleRisk.
In May 2022, Malone joined Demandbase as Chief Information Security Officer, responsible for information security and IT functions. At Demandbase, he led global security operations, influenced research and development strategy, and advised executive leadership on risk governance.
He moved to BeyondTrust as CISO in April 2025, joining with more than 15 years of experience in the cybersecurity industry. As of March 2026, BeyondTrust's leadership page continued to list him as Chief Information Security Officer, noting his background also includes leadership roles at two early-stage startups with successful exits.
Credentials and recognition
Malone holds a master's degree in information security and assurance from Western Governors University, along with the CISSP, CISM, CISA, CCISO, AWS Solutions Architect, and AWS Security Specialty certifications. He is a U.S. patent holder for his work on systems and methods for assessment of cyber resilience. BeyondTrust's leadership team page describes him as a frequent presenter at conferences. He was named a winner of the 2025 Pacific Northwest ORBIE awards, a technology executive recognition program honoring CISOs for leadership and the business value created through technology innovation.
Remit at BeyondTrust
Malone has said that having seen nearly every successful cyberattack exploit an unnecessary path to privilege, he was drawn to lead security at BeyondTrust. BeyondTrust's leadership page states that he is responsible for building security organizations that earn customer trust and defend against sophisticated adversaries, drawing on ten years of experience operating as a simulated adversary in high-end red team engagements.
