Public commentary on the CSO role
On November 19, 2025, O'Connell discussed the evolution of the CSO role on Security Magazine's Lock It Down podcast, hosted by Managing Editor Jordyn Alger. "I've been in security for over 20 years now, and it's been a pretty exciting journey," O'Connell said of his time in the field. He described how the standing of security within organizations has shifted over the course of his career, moving from a back-office function toward a more prominent position.
