Chris Jones is chief trust & security officer of Axonius, a newly created title the asset-intelligence company announced for him in September 2026.
Career path
Jones brings more than 25 years of experience across high-growth SaaS and Fortune 50 technology companies, as well as the U.S. federal government and intelligence community.
He began his career in public safety, then supported U.S. federal government and intelligence-community operations, where he founded the FBI's Cyber Profiling Program.
Later he founded Nike's first global cybersecurity incident response team, then matured the enterprise security function at CLEAR following its IPO, delivering PCI DSS, SOC 2 and FedRAMP High compliance.
Before Axonius, Jones served as deputy CISO at Cisco, where he owned cybersecurity strategy for the network platform and assurance organization, a portfolio that included Meraki and Catalyst and generated more than $10 billion in revenue.
The Axonius role
In the new position, Jones owns Axonius' enterprise security strategy while also leading its field CISO program as a customer-facing security advisor.
Jones summarized his approach this way: "Customers don't want to be sold security. They want a product that works. My job is to close that gap."
About the employer
Axonius describes itself as the asset intelligence platform for unified security operations and exposure management, a platform it says provides one source of truth for assets and exposures so organizations can prioritize risks and coordinate fixes.
Axonius chief executive Joe Diamond framed the hire around scrutiny rather than compliance box-checking, saying Jones has spent his career making sure security programs hold up under real scrutiny and not just an audit.
Axonius does not date the individual steps of his public-safety or intelligence-community work, so this profile leaves those years unstated.
