He also played a role in architecting and improving Dell Technologies' Trust Platform, a security automation and visibility technology.
Earlier in his career he managed security and compliance at VirtuStream, which Dell Technologies acquired in 2020, and worked at Dell EMC and RSA.

When LogicGate announced his hiring, the company's president of product and technology said Kathmann's breadth of enterprise security experience made him suited to lead the security organization.
Remit at LogicGate
At LogicGate, Kathmann leads the company's information security program, oversees platform security innovations and engages with customers on managing cybersecurity risk. He brings more than 20 years of enterprise security experience, including more than 18 years focused specifically on cybersecurity, having built and led security operations for organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 100 enterprises.
Public commentary
Kathmann has described cybersecurity as a balancing act in which CISOs must respond to immediate threats such as ransomware and phishing while also developing long-term strategies and reporting to the C-suite and board. Writing on security budgeting, he has advised that security teams dedicate roughly 30 percent of staff time to long-term projects rather than only day-to-day operational work, so that immediate threats can be addressed without derailing longer-term plans. Discussing organizational resilience with IT Brew, he said, "How do we continue to operate if a critical vendor goes down, or if a critical piece of software goes down?" He added that staying within budget as vendors raise their costs remains a significant ongoing concern.
