As of March 2025, Tim Roemer is the CEO of Global Market Innovators (GMI), a Scottsdale, Arizona-based information technology and cybersecurity firm.

Career path

Roemer began his career with ten years at the Central Intelligence Agency, including assignments at CIA headquarters in McLean, Virginia, and work for the National Reconnaissance Office and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. The final two years of his CIA career were spent in the White House Situation Room, where he provided national security updates to the President, Vice President, and National Security Council and briefed senior U.S. policymakers.
He then returned to Arizona to work for Governor Doug Ducey, serving two years as the state's Chief Information Security Officer, one year as the Governor's Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs, and four years in a dual role as the Governor's Public Safety Advisor and Deputy Director of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security. In April 2021, Ducey appointed him Director of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security, a role in which he also served concurrently as the state's Chief Information Security Officer, managing Arizona's cybersecurity team and advising the Governor on cybersecurity, border security, and counterterrorism.
He was the only person in the country holding both a state Department of Homeland Security directorship and a state CISO post at the same time. Discussing the transition to incoming Governor Katie Hobbs, with whom he had worked on election security matters, Roemer said, "I have so much respect for Governor-elect Hobbs and her entire team," adding that his focus was on moving the department forward. In September 2023, Roemer joined GMI as Chief Security Officer, a position he held for nearly two years before being named CEO in March 2025.

Remit and outside roles

As Chief Security Officer, Roemer oversaw GMI's security and cybersecurity operations, including CISO as a Service, security and risk assessments, incident response, and ransomware resilience offerings, alongside the company's 24x7 Security Operations Center in North Scottsdale. He has also served on multiple boards, co-chairing the Arizona-Mexico Commission's Security Committee and sitting on the Arizona Human Trafficking Council.
Roemer is additionally an advisor to NightDragon and a member of Dataminr's advisory board. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, with a minor in Political Science, from Arizona State University.
