William Bengtson is Chief Information Security Officer of ConductorOne, appointed in January 2026. In the role he leads ConductorOne's security strategy and is responsible for ensuring the identity platform delivers enterprise-grade security as it serves both human and non-human identities.
Career path
Bengtson's early public work in cybersecurity included a role as Senior Security Program Manager at Nuna Health, where in 2016 he and a colleague gave a first-time presentation at RSA Conference on how defenses and strategy must evolve alongside attacker tactics, techniques and procedures.
He went on to hold senior security and engineering roles at Capital One and at Netflix, working across cloud infrastructure, developer platforms and identity. At Netflix, his focus was on preventing and detecting compromise of cloud identities in AWS, and on building proactive security measures to keep Netflix's cloud infrastructure safe.
Before joining ConductorOne, Bengtson served as Vice President of Platform and Security Engineering at HashiCorp, where he built and led teams securing infrastructure products used by thousands of enterprises globally. ConductorOne has described him as bringing more than two decades of experience securing cloud platforms, identity systems and developer infrastructure at scale, along with earlier work in offensive security and secure systems design.
ConductorOne announced his appointment as CISO alongside news that the company, the identity platform for humans and agents, had expanded its security leadership. The appointment followed a Series B funding round in November 2025 that brought ConductorOne's total funding to over $110 million.
Teaching and public speaking
Beyond his industry roles, Bengtson has served as a lecturer and cybersecurity advisor at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he helped develop curriculum that contributed to the university's designation as an NSA Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences including Black Hat, RSA, AppSec and QCon, and is known for remaining technical as a senior leader, often working directly with engineering teams.
Describing his approach to the new role, Bengtson said: "I've spent years building teams, processes, and technical controls that stand up to rigorous audit and real‑world attack scenarios."
